2025 OPCM Convention

From May 30 to June 1, 2025, the Ontario Provincial Council of Machinists (OPCM) and IAM Local 1231 hosted the 61st OPCM Convention in Toronto, bringing together delegates for three days of education and discussion on workers’ rights.

Newly elected OPCM President Dean O’Reilly opened the event, emphasizing unity, while IAM Canada General Vice President David Chartrand highlighted the importance of cross-border solidarity. IAM International President Bryan Bryant underscored the bond between Canadian and American IAM members.

Ralph Martin announced the establishment of “GDA/TLC Canada” and received the Norman Court Award for his contributions, which were recognized by Sister Merry St. Bernard, Marcia Stone, and the Local 1231 Host Committee.

Laura Walton from the Ontario Federation of Labour spoke on collaboration in advancing labour objectives, and Richard Prest discussed workplace mental health strategies.

Dani Bartlett of the Gender Equality Coalition emphasized the importance of equity for women in trades, while International Representative Derek Ferguson focused on the role of political engagement. An educational Jeopardy session on IAM history was led by D78 Organizer Sister Rootisha Rampat Sukhu. The final day featured the presentation of the OPCM Humanitarian Awards to Feed Ontario.

In a heartfelt closing, Sister Kim Vallière was recognized for her endless support, and President O’Reilly announced that the next OPCM Convention will be in North Bay in 2026. Social events included an outing to Medieval Times.
